It not only shapes their careers but also impacts their teams. So when the Miami Heat acquired the Big 3 partnership of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James, it did not go as the players planned in the first season. James’ infamous “The Decision,” brought about quite the heat as the belief of a disrespect towards his former team floated around. Wade, who was caught in the mix, simplifies it to be all about the game; a sport he enjoys and loves to play. On his YouTube channel, Wade spoke with Bob Metelus about the hero and villain storyline in the world of Basketball. Metelus asked about the time when the Flash was considered a villain in 2010, having played a significant role in bringing James to the team. “I didn’t like it,” was Wade’s definitive response. “I’m not a Villain, I don’t want to be that.” Dwyane Wade said, via The Wine Down with Dwyane Wade. “I want to play basketball I want to smile when I want to I want to talk a little sh**.” The 3x NBA champion just wanted to have fun since he loved the game as a child. The villain tag took away the fun part and made it difficult. ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad Dwyane Wade delved into the aftermath of when a player decides to leave a franchise. With refreshing candor, he openly shared the personal toll he endured from fans and the media alike. “How have organizations been able to convince the fans that whatever they do is business? Yeah, whatever the player does is out of greed, yeah, selfish motivation. I don’t understand that at the PR for the organization, they got the best PR person.” Wade spoke to Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast which premiered June 12, 2023. via Getty Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade #3 and Miami Heat small forward LeBron James #6 chat during halftime during an NBA game between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX (Photo by Albert Pena/Icon SMI/Corbis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) The next three were fun according to Dwyane Wade but the loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the first year changed a lot of things. The Heat appeared in 4 back-to-back finals and won 2 championship finals. However, with all the hype surrounding them, the trio lost the first finals and Wade shared the learnings from the game. Things had to change and being one of the leaders Wade made sure the mistakes were not being repeated. According to Udonis Haslem who was part of the Heat roster himself during the iconic LeBron-Wade-Bosh era. He appreciated how Dwyane Wade had more experience within the franchise than Bron, but still chose to step aside and provide full support, making LeBron the #1. The mentorship didn’t stop just with LeBron James. The entire heat team would start communicating more off the field. In the first year, the majority of the people used to go their separate ways after the game. It was only the next day when the team used to see each other again. But in the second year, Wade and Co. used to get together after the games and sit in a room. Thus creating the chemistry away from the game. During LeBron’s four-year tenure in Miami, the partnership between him and Dwyane Wade became a thing for the history books. From dropping iconic poses to using each other to put back-to-back dunks and score heavily, they represented what a partnership like that of MJ-Scottie Pippen would look like in modern times.
